Das sind Highland Games, Homecoming Events, Festivals in Edinburgh und vieles mehr. Wir berichten über Tradition und Brauchtum in diesem Land von der Nationalspeise Haggis bis zum Kilt. Weiterhin zeigen die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt an Land und im Wasser und informieren Sie über die Verkehrsregeln in Schottland. Neben dem Linksverkehr gibt es besondere Regeln im Kreisverkehr. Highland Games 2014

Die Geschichte der Highland Games reicht über drei Jahrhunderte zurück und hat sich aus dem schottischen Clan-System entwickelt. Damals hielten die Clan-Chiefs ihre Leute an, sich in Kraft, Geschicklichkeit und Ausdauer miteinander zu messen, um ihre Eignung für die Schlacht zu beweisen. Dieses Element des Wettkampfes ist zwar immer noch ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil aller Veranstaltungen, aber heute macht zusätzlich das Schauspiel der Tänzer und Dudelsackspieler vor der farbenfrohen und grandiosen Kulisse der schottischen Landschaft die Highland Games und Gatherings zu einem Highlight für alle Schottlandbesucher. Zu Highland Games gehören normalerweise folgende Elemente: Hammerwerfen, Baumstammwerfen, Steinstoßen, Tauziehen (die zu den „Heavy Events“, der Schwerathletik, zusammengefasst werden), Leichtathletikwettbewerbe (die „Light Events“), sowie Wettbewerbe im Tanzen und Dudelsackspielen. Gewöhnlich gibt es dazu auch noch Shows, Verkaufsstände und Erfrischungen. Zwischen Mai und September finden überall in Schottland Highland Games statt.
